Economic growth requires more than solutions for today; it also depends on a clear vision for the future. That is why several Chambers of Commerce are developing long-term strategies to strengthen their regions and prepare them for tomorrow’s challenges. Two inspiring examples are HITT 2050 in East Flanders and Roadmap2040 in the Mechelen-Kempen region.
With its Roadmap2040, Voka – Kamer van Koophandel Mechelen-Kempen is looking firmly ahead, developing a strategic vision for a region that is already one of Belgium’s key economic engines.
Mechelen-Kempen is the most industrialised region in the country and has achieved an average annual growth rate of 5% over the past decade. To further strengthen this positive momentum, the Chamber is focusing on several strategic growth drivers that will help keep the region attractive to businesses and investors in the decades ahead.
Roadmap2040 was officially launched on 1 April at VITO in Mol, a highly symbolic location. VITO is widely recognised as one of the key institutions supporting the region’s future development and plays an important role
With HITT 2050, Voka – Kamer van Koophandel Oost-Vlaanderen has developed an ambitious vision for Ghent and the wider East Flanders region, with 2050 as its horizon.
The vision focuses on three areas where the province can take a leading role: Health, Industry, Technology & Talent (HITT). These ambitions build on the region’s strong entrepreneurial culture, the presence of top talent, and the available space for further economic development.
The vision document outlines the strategic objectives. The next step will be to translate these ambitions into concrete action plans together with businesses, knowledge institutions, public authorities, and other partners to help shape the future of East Flanders.
