Companies can indeed make an important contribution to the realisation of the SDGs, and with the Voka Charter for Sustainable Enterprise (VCDO), the Flemish Chambers have developed an extremely useful programme for companies to work within the SDG framework as they take action. After 2 years, 140 companies have already obtained the VCDO certificate and interest is growing.
Together with the company, the Chamber looks into the company’s challenges linked to the SDGs and a plan of at least 10 action points is drawn up. After one year, an evaluation is carried out by an external evaluation committee. If the company receives a positive evaluation three times in a row and realises actions within each of the 17 SDGs, the company receives a UNITAR certificate issued by CIFAL Flanders, an acknowledgement by the United Nations for the efforts made.
