Chambers Meet Students: Future talent meets global business

On 18 November, Belgian Chambers, together with Voka – Kamer van Koophandel Antwerpen-Waasland  and several of its bilateral chambers of commerce, once again hosted the inspiring “Chambers Meet Students” event at Karel de Grote University of Applied Sciences in Antwerp. During a lively evening session, students from International Business Management, Paralegal Studies and various other internationally oriented programmes had the opportunity to engage directly with representatives of the Chambers of Commerce.

Fictional companies, real international ambitions

Working in small groups, students developed a fictional company and took part in short 20–25 minute sessions with different Chambers. Their key question was:
“How can we grow our company internationally in the country you represent?”

They also wanted to gain more insight into:

  • how a Chamber of Commerce supports entrepreneurs in their internationalisation efforts.
  • the characteristics and challenges of each country’s business environment.
  • internship and career opportunities in an international context.

The discussions were highly interactive, covering topics such as international expansion, export procedures, IP protection, consumer law, business culture and gaining local market insight through the Chambers.

Strong representation from the Belgian and international Chamber network

Participants included:

  • Belgian Chambers (Wouter Van Gulck and Veerle Geeraerts)
  • Eurochambres (Levin Spiegel)
  • ICC Belgium (Julie Deré)
  • Voka – Chamber of Commerce Antwerp-Waasland (Laurence Menten)
  • and a testimonial from Filter-Technics (Bart Smets)

Several bilateral chambers also took part, including the Chilean-Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, Belgian-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (BCECC), German-Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, Belgian-Macedonian Business Club (BMBC), Belgo Peru Chamber of Commerce, Belgian Luxembourg Romanian Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and the Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain.


The diversity of voices gave students an authentic picture of what international entrepreneurship looks like in practice.

A valuable meeting point between education and the Chamber network

The event once again highlighted the value of interaction between students with international ambitions and Chambers that support businesses worldwide. Participants not only tested their knowledge but also received concrete advice on building an international career, from internships to developing a global network.

With very positive feedback from both the participating Chambers and the students, this edition can be considered a great success and a meaningful step in strengthening the link between education, entrepreneurship and internationalisation.
