Belgian Chambers celebrates 150 years

On Thursday 25 September 2025, Belgian Chambers marked a very special milestone: its 150th anniversary. The celebration took place in the auditorium of BNP Paribas Fortis in Brussels, in the presence of H.R.H. Princess Astrid, H.R.H. Prince Lorenz, entrepreneurs, policy makers and international guests.

It was a moment to look back with pride – from the very first chamber in Bruges in 1665 to today’s vibrant network of 13 regional chambers and 40 bilateral chambers abroad – and to look forward with ambition.

“We are 150 years young, not old. Our role as a partner for companies is more relevant than ever: building bridges between businesses, between entrepreneurs and policymakers, and between local needs and international opportunities.” – René Branders

A living network

The story of Belgian Chambers is one of continuity and renewal. From its founding in 1875 as a federation of independent chambers to its role today within Eurochambres and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Federation has always been about one thing: trust.

“In a complex world, chambers remain the trusted third party that entrepreneurs can rely on.” – Wouter van Gulck

Looking ahead

The anniversary was not just about history – it was also about the future. With a strong local anchoring and a global reach, Belgian Chambers will continue to connect companies with opportunities, both at home and abroad, for the next 150 years.
